Dr
Indu Patwardhan left has home to join Gandhiji's movement of Sabarmati
in 1942, later was trained as a school teacher by Madam Maria Montessory,
and was working at St. Columbia High School, Bombay for two months
before being selected to join the then British India Red Cross and
St. John Ambulance. After the intensive training she was posted
to Burma under active service during World War II and was the first
Indian lady working actively in South East Asia thereafter worked
in military hospital, Poona.
She
was the joint lady camp commandant with lady Martten and was responsible
for the rehabilitation of refugees and abducted women in Pakistan.
Later studied Homeopathy and started her own clinic in rural areas
of Poona, worked with the Poona Women's Council, the troops aid
committee. is a founder member of Poona Blindmen's Association.
In 1965 started worked with Leprosy people and in 1970 established
Anandgram. |
